Wales is a country of history, legends, nature and song. It is a part of the United Kingdom and Great Britain and it is located to the west of England. The capital of Wales is Cardiff, and other large cities are Newport, Swansea, Bangor and St. David’s.
There are around 3 million people living in Wales. Some of the celebrities from Wales are Catherine Zeta-Jones, Tom Jones, Anthony Hopkins, Richard Burton, Dylan Thomas, Roald Dahl and Duffy.
Wales is a country with a complicated history. Around the year 700, the early middle age, Wales was divided into three kingdoms. Throughout history Wales has been conquered by the Celts, the Romans, the Saxons and the Vikings, and now the people of Wales are very patriotic and they really love their land. They speak both English, and Welsh, which is a Celtic language, but only 1 out of 5 speaks this language, so there is no problem being in Wales if you only can manage English. And if you ever go to Wales you will see a lot of castles. There have been many fights in Wales, between different Kings. One of the famous kings is King Arthur, which was a Celtic leader. The legends say that he was helped by the sorcerer Merlin, which supposedly was born in Carmarthen. The city called Camlan is also supposedly the city where Camelot was once.
St. David’s day is the national holiday of Wales and it’s celebrated on the 1th of March.
If you are travelling to Wales there is a lot of things you can do; climbing, cycling, walking, diving, caving, surfing, horse riding, go to theatre, museums, travel to historical and legendary places. The things you should see is: 1. Wye Valley, - lots of castles. 2. The Brecon Beacons National Park 3. Cardiff 4. A Welsh Rugby Match 5. The Vale of Glamorgan, - area of history and legends.
